What does Kwik Fit's four wheel alignment check include?

Using Hunter Hawkeye four wheel alignment equipment, we measure 14 primary alignment angles on your vehicle. These include Camber, Caster, Thrust Line, Toe in and Toe out. Comparisons are then made against the vehicle manufacturers data for your vehicle. This ensures the vehicle is set up perfectly for you to drive.

Our four wheel alignment price covers the Hunter Hawkeye Four Wheel Alignment inspection and the front toe adjustment. Additional charges will apply if further adjustments are required. You will be advised at the time of inspection prior to any work being carried out.

What is a tyre bead?

A tyre bead is the ring of steel wire within a rubber wrapper that helps to hold the tyre to rim.

What is a tyre speed rating?

A tyre speed rating indicates the top speed that a tyre is able to safely travel at. It can be seen on the tyre side wall, shown by the final letter after the wheel size details. It is vital that your tyres have a suitable speed rating for your vehicle’s top speed, having a speed rating that is too low is dangerous and can invalidate your insurance. Click below to see our full guide on how to read your tyre speed rating and what speed each letter represents.

What is the load index of a tyre?

Every tyre has a load index which is a numerical code that ranges from 0 to 279 that corresponds to the maximum load a tyre can carry at the speed indicated by its speed symbol. For example, a tyre load index of 76 can carry up to 400 kilograms.

Further Information

What is the speed rating of my tyre?

The speed rating of a tyre is represented by a letter of the alphabet at the end of the tyre size code. The speed rating indicates the maximum speed that the tyre is capable of reaching safely. The easiest way to check the speed rating is to check your existing tyres – the speed rating will be printed on the tyre sidewall. Alternatively, check your vehicle handbook for information about appropriate speed rated tyres for your vehicle.

What is wheel alignment?

Alignment or tracking is a process of adjusting the angle of your wheels to the optimum position as per the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation. This ensures the vehicle steers in a straight line and tyres wear evenly across the tread.

What is wheel balancing?

Balancing is a process that takes place whenever a new tyre is fitted to a rim to ensure that when the tyre and wheel spin, their weight is equally distributed across the whole tyre. An unbalanced wheel places more weight on one part of the tyre leading to steering wheel vibration and uneven tyre wear.

Why are the prices on the website different to those quoted in my local Kwik Fit centre?

We are committed to offering our customers our most competitive tyre prices online. Therefore, prices shown for our range of tyres on Kwik-Fit.com are exclusive to the website and may vary from the prices set in your local Kwik Fit centre. We are generally able to offer better prices online than in centre due to web exclusive offers and promotions and the efficiency savings on tyres which are supplied to order, on demand, rather than from pre-paid immediately available stock. Tyres ordered online are not available for fitting on that same day and are delivered to the centre from our National Distribution Centre for each specific order made via the website. To meet these requirements, we generally offer appointments for three or five days from the date of purchase.

Stock availability and promotions in centre and online will differ as they are managed separately.

Our centres do not have access to our online prices and are not able to compare accordingly.

Why does Kwik Fit not repair run flat tyres?

Run flat tyres are designed to keep your car on the road in the event of a puncture until you find your nearest garage but cannot be repaired due to the added strain placed on them and the possibility of sidewall damage.

Why does Kwik Fit not repair tyres that have been temporarily repaired using a foam repair filler / sealant kit?

British standard BS AU159 sets out the rules for repairs to car tyres. It defines the type of damage that can be repaired and the way that repairs should be carried out. One of the most important requirements is that the car tyre has to be removed from the wheel to check for internal damage.

Because a tyre has to be removed from a wheel and checked for internal damage before it can be repaired permanently, sealants or foam repair kits cannot be considered permanent repairs. Kwik Fit as a company, therefore, are unable to repair tyres that have been temporarily repaired using any foam repair kits. This is due to the bonding of the glues used on a puncture repair, if any small amount of residue is left from the foam it will react with the glues used and we cannot guarantee the quality of the repair.
