At the Autosport Show, excitement was building ahead of the 2020 Kwik Fit BTCC season. There were car unveilings, new driver announcements and team line-up changes in preparation for 2020. In this blog, we take a look at how the 2020 grid is shaping up.

Laser Tools Racing

Aiden Moffat and Ash Sutton unveiled the Infiniti Q50 which they will both be driving during the 2020 season. Laser Tools Racing switched from the Mercedes-Benz A-Class to the Infiniti Q50 during the summer of the 2019 season and extensive work is planned in 2020 pre-season testing to give Aiden and Ash the best chance of competing for podium finishes next season. Sutton tested out the Infiniti in September 2019 and felt that the car had great potential once the team have worked out how to unlock the potential speed of the car. Ash and Aiden are looking forward to working together to get the best results for the team in the 2020 season. Laser Tools Racing also announced that they will be sponsored by RCIB as shown during the Infiniti Q50 unveiling at the Autosport Show. This will allow significant investment by the team into making sure that the Q50s are as competitive as possible.

Halfords Yuasa Racing

Matt Neal has confirmed that he will be participating in a record breaking 30th BTCC campaign. Driving for Halfords Yuasa Racing alongside Dan Cammish, Matt will be looking to build on a consistent 2020 season. Aged 53, Matt is the oldest driver on the BTCC grid but he is still as determined as ever to fight for the championship title.

BTC Racing

There were two exciting driver announcements made by BTC Racing at Autosport ahead of the 2020 season.  Michael Crees and Tom Chilton will be joining Josh Cook driving for BTC Racing in a three man team for 2020.

ExcelR8 Motorsport

Senna Proctor will be driving for the team in 2020 in the Hyundai i30. 2020 marks the first time that Hyundai will be represented in the BTCC season. Proctor’s targets for the season are as many top 10 finishes as possible with the aim of also finishing on the podium.  ExcelR8 are hopeful that Senna’s experience will enable them to improve on their performance in the 2019 season and that they can maximise the potential of the Hyundai i30.

Ciceley Motorsport

Ciceley Motorsport have confirmed that they will stick with the same driver line up in 2020 as they did for the 2020 season. Adam Morgan and Daniel Rowbottom will be hoping to build on last season’s progress by consistently challenging for top 10 positions.

Trade Price Cars Racing

After the retirement of ex Formula One driver Mark Blundell after his first season in the BTCC, Trade Price Cars Racing has confirmed that James Gornall will join Bobby Thompson in the team next season. Mark describes his season in the BTCC as the toughest of his career as he found it difficult to pick up points. James Gornall is the reigning MINI Challenge champion and will be hoping for a successful first season in the BTCC. As he has experienced success already, James certainly has a winning mentality and wants to make an impression.

AMD Tuning

Sam Osborne has been confirmed as a driver for AMD Tuning for the 2020 Kwik Fit BTCC season. AMD Tuning will be running Honda Civic Type Rs. Jake Hill will remain with AMD Tuning for 2020 and Sam will hope to learn from the expertise of AMD Tuning and his team mate next season. Sam and Jake will be looking to achieve success as a team through as many points finishes as possible.

Pre- Season Testing

The season launch has been confirmed to be taking place on 17th March. The teams will be testing their cars out on track with the circuit open to members of the public from 9:30am with a pitlane walkabout planned. The season will start at Donington Park on the 28th March where the drivers will be looking to kick off their seasons with as many points as possible.
